Liberty Hall – Frederick County
Circa: 1871
Style: Italianate-style Post-Civil War Mansion
Location: Off Rte 522 North just outside Winchester
According to a survey done by the Virginia Division of Historic Landmarks, this large home (4400+sf) house was built by John Glaize, a Confederate captain, following the Civil War. (See History for deeds transfers, style descriptions, etc).
The foyer is a magnificent entrance to the house with its wide, elegant walnut staircase that appears to wind up three stories to what was once a widow’s walk, and a unique “striped” entry hall floor made of alternating light and dark boards of maple and oak. The home’s large rooms are augmented by 12-foot ceilings. Five large bedrooms, a parlor, a sitting room, a spacious and beckoning dining room all provide plenty of space for your antique collection.
